Course Description:
 This course prepares young adult students with disabilities with awareness of basic practices of staying safe and healthy as an adult. Students work toward course learning objectives in a community-based setting on their individual learning needs. Students learn that health is not just physical, but includes emotional, social, and spiritual aspects. The course prepares students by teaching where and how to access services and support related to health areas including physical, dental, mental, and sexual health. Students also learn safety measures for the home including childproofing and measures to reduce risk of harm in the event of a disaster. In addition, students examine their current lifestyle choices relative to physical fitness, recreation, and leisure, explore options in the community, and set personal goals for improving their health and wellness.
