Course Description:
 This course prepares young adult students with disabilities with skills to increase their independence in daily life. Students work toward course learning objectives in a community-based environment based on their individual learning needs. This course covers communicating personal information in a safe manner, using appropriate interpersonal skills in a variety of settings, performing self-care skills and home care skills, understanding cooking, nutrition, and measurement, understanding basics of managing personal and household finances and basic financial literacy skills, knowing ways to compare goods and services, and understanding resources to obtain housing and maintain rental agreements. This course also provides protected time for small group designated English Language Development (dELD) instruction for English learners at all proficiency levels. This small group instruction builds critical language skills into and from the course content and is focused on the CA ELD Standards.
