Course Description: |
| This course prepares young adult students with disabilities with increased independence in accessing community activities and resources with an emphasis on personal safety and respect for cultural diversity and human rights. Students work toward learning objectives in a community-based setting based on their individual learning needs. This course covers personal safety online as well as within the community, use of different types of transportation, and interpretation of travel related information, use of telephone and similar communication systems, and the use of mailing and shipping services, and steps to access community agencies and services. In addition, students build their understanding of the concept of time and weather and its implications; understand civic values and the value of community service and volunteer opportunities; and aspects of society and culture. |
