Course Description:
Theatre: The Musical 5,6 extends concepts, technique, and vocabulary past personal performance and into the lens of musical theatre direction. Students will begin to independently cast roles, coach performances, and develop their own warmups. They will choose a “mentor” from musical theatre history and identify leadership roles for which they are qualified. Analysis is deeper and more sophisticated, focusing on musical theatre storytelling, staging, physicality, and music theory (in a more complex conductor’s or piano/vocal score). The course culminates with a student-led and student-directed production for public performance.
