Course Description:
 This two-semester course is designed for students in grades 9–12 who have very limited or no piano-playing experience. In this course, students are introduced to the basic principles of musicianship, as well as standard piano techniques and literature. Students learn how to play fundamental chords and exercises in most keys, and the proper use of the pedals. They also learn the fundamentals of music reading and notation, and how to describe different musical styles using the standard vocabulary of music. They perform in-class recitals of piano music from a variety of historical periods and cultures.
