Course Description:
 This is a year-long advanced level dance course for students in grade 6-8 who wish to increase their knowledge of jazz, ballet and tap using physical education model content standard for California Public Schools. Students demonstrate motor skills and movement patterns needed to perform a variety of physical activities with an emphasis in jazz, ballet, and tap. Additionally, students assess and maintain a level of physical fitness to improve health and performance while demonstrating knowledge of movement concepts, principles and strategies. Using physical fitness concepts, principles and strategies, students demonstrate how they play a role in improving health and performance. The above aforementioned will be focused towards jazz, ballet, and tap related topics, but will make connections and include non­-dance related fields of sports and recreational activities to meet the objective of general fitness and health. Finally, students demonstrate and utilize knowledge of psychological and sociological concepts, principles and strategies as they apply to learning and performance of physical activities.
