Submit Your School Options Online Application
1. Visit the School Options Online Application web site and login Visit the School Options Online Application web site.

If the student has ever been enrolled in a San Diego Unified school:

  • Enter the student's district-issued Student ID number.
  • Enter the student's last name.

If the student has never enrolled in a San Diego Unified school:

  • Click the link to submit a new application for a new student.

Please note you must enter the student ID and last name of the student exactly as it appears on report cards and other district materials. To find the student ID, please contact the school or examine an old report card/progress report. Only one application per student is allowed. Duplicate applications will be deleted.

Please note that the School Options Online Application web site makes use of browser cookies. If your web browser does not support the use of cookies, then you will not be able to use this web site.

2. Enter information about the student and submit the application You will be asked to provide some basic information about the student and the parent/guardian submitting the application. If the student is new to San Diego Unified Schools, you will also be asked to enter information about the student's birth date, gender, home language, and grade level.

If you live within the boundaries of the San Diego Unified School District, then you will need to enter your street address as indicated in step 3, below. If you live outside of the district boundaries or outside of San Diego county, please be sure to mark the appropriate checkbox on the application.

3. Enter your Street Address
  1. Enter the Street Number: Enter the street number for the address you wish to enter. For example, enter "4100" if your street address is 4100 Normal Street.
  2. Enter the Street Fraction: Enter the street fraction for the address you wish to enter. For example, enter "1/2" if your street address is 4100 1/2 Normal Street.
  3. Enter the Street Name: Enter the street name for the address you wish to enter. For example, enter "Normal" if your street address is 4100 Normal Street. Street names must be spelled correctly in order to find schools related to your address.
  4. Select the Street Direction: Select the street direction for the address you wish to enter. For example, select "South" if your street address is South 35th Street.

    Note: Our addresses follow Thomas Guide conventions for directions with numbered streets in the City of San Diego. There are no "North" numbered streets in our database, only "South" numbered streets. For example, "300 S 65TH ST" is valid, but "300 N 65TH ST" is not valid. Enter "300 65TH ST" instead. Note that this only applies to numbered Street ("ST") addresses.

  5. Select the Street Type: Select the street type for the address you wish to enter. For example, select "Street (ST)" if your street address is 4100 Normal Street.
  6. Enter the Apartment Number: Enter the apartment number for the address you wish to enter. For example, enter "B" if your street address is 4100 Normal Street, Apartment B.
  7. Select a Street Location: Select the street suffix for the address you wish to enter. For example, select "South" if your street address is 404 Camino Del Rio South.
  8. Enter the City: Enter the city for the address you wish to enter. For example, enter "San Diego" if your street address is 4100 Normal Street, San Diego.
  9. Select a State: Select the state for the address you wish to enter. For example, select "California" if your street address is 4100 Normal Street, San Diego, CA.
  10. Enter the Zip Code: Enter the zip code for the address you wish to enter. For example, enter "92103" if your street address is 4100 Normal Street, San Diego, CA 92103.
  11. Out of District Address: Use this box to indicate that you live outside the boundaries of San Diego Unified School District or outside of San Diego County. Find out if you live within the San Diego Unified School District boundaries.
4. Enter Priority when applicable and if you are applying between Nov. 1 and Feb. 15 Your child qualifies as a sibling if the brother or sister of the student is enrolled at the selected school and will continue to be enrolled next school year. Please provide the sibling's name and school.

If you are an employee of San Diego Unified and you are requesting a school in the cluster where you work, you may receive a higher priority for this school.

5. Submit requests for School Choice/Open Enrollment, Magnet, Program Improvement School Choice (PISC), or Voluntary Enrollment Exchange Program (VEEP) Once you have submitted the basic information for your School Options Online Application, you may select the schools. The number of schools you may submit online between November 1 and February 15 is limited to 3 schools.

The schools need to be submitted in priority order (1st choice, 2nd choice, etc.). Parents will be offered one school based on the priority order submitted.

Visit the Neighborhood Schools and Enrollment Options web site for more information about Voluntary Enrollment Exchange Program (VEEP), School Choice/Open Enrollment, Magnet and Program Improvement School Choice (PISC).

6. Write down your Applicant ID After you submit your application, you will be provided with an Applicant ID number. If you wish to return to this site later to change or submit schools, you will need the applicant ID or student ID to login. Remember you are limited to 3 schools.

Make Changes To Your School Options Online Application
1. Visit the School Options Online Application web site and login You may return and review your application information as often as you like. Visit the School Options Online Application web site until February 15.

Please note you must enter the student ID and last name of your student exactly as it appears on report cards and other district materials. To find the student ID, please contact the school or examine an old report card/progress report. If you are having difficulty finding the student, do not remember your applicant ID, or if you need help logging in, please contact Neighborhood Schools and Enrollment Options at eoptions@sandi.net or (619) 725-5672.

Submit additional requests for School Choice/Open Enrollment, Magnet, PISC, and VEEP Once you successfully login, you may submit additional requests for School Choice/Open Enrollment, Magnet, PISC, or VEEP schools. The number of schools you may submit online between November 1 and February 15 is limited to 3 schools.
