| Course Description: | |
| Anatomy & Physiology for Patient Care is a comprehensive course
designed to develop students’ understanding of the structure and
function of the human body through a systems-based approach. The
course integrates core concepts of anatomy and physiology with
real-world healthcare applications, preparing students for careers in
the health field. Students begin by building a foundation in medical terminology, anatomical directions, levels of organization, and ethical practices, including confidentiality and HIPAA. As the course progresses, students study all major body systems, including integumentary, skeletal, muscular, nervous, endocrine, cardiovascular, respiratory, digestive, immune, urinary, and reproductive systems, with an emphasis on how these systems interact to maintain homeostasis. Instruction emphasizes both theory and application through hands-on laboratory investigations, simulations, and the use of anatomical models, mannequins, and diagnostic tools. Students engage in activities such as vital signs monitoring, system-based simulations, and clinical skill development. A focused unit on the oral cavity reinforces connections between body systems and overall health. Additional units explore diagnostics, medical tools, infection control, and safety practices aligned to industry standards. Throughout the course, students develop skills in observation, analysis, communication, and professional practice. The course concludes with a final project and career exploration, where students apply their knowledge to patient care scenarios and examine pathways within the healthcare field. | |
