Surf Physical Education (5727)    - PILOT COURSE -


Pilot Site:
 This is a pilot course for Correia Middle. Other schools may not offer this course without prior approval from the Interdivisional Curriculum Committee.

 Parents/guardians need to attend an informational meeting prior to the semester starting.

This class does not replace the required 8th grade physical education class.

If a student takes Surf Physical Education Elective in 8th grade the student still must take Physical Education 1,2 in 9th grade.

No more than 20-25 students in the class per session as part of a safety concerns.

Course Description:
 Surf PE is a unique elective course that combines ocean safety, surfing skills, and physical fitness. Students will learn the fundamentals of surfing, including paddling techniques, wave selection, balance, and board control. Emphasis is placed on water safety, ocean awareness, and respect for the coastal environment. In addition to time in the water, students will participate in dryland conditioning, stretching, and strength exercises that build endurance, flexibility, and overall fitness to support their surfing performance. Lessons also include discussions on ocean ecology, surf etiquette, and teamwork. No prior surfing experience is required; however, students must pass the YMCA Swim Test and an Ocean Safety Assessment.
