| | Students in the Honors English Literature and Ethnic
Studies course will achieve mastery of key California
Common Core Standards for English as they read and
analyze a broad range of nonfiction and fiction
selections, deepening their awareness of how language
works in effectively communicating an idea, argument,
and/or theme. Students will analyze multiple texts,
conduct research, write a variety of expository and
literary compositions, and participate in their
communities as active members of a democratic society.
Through literature, nonfiction works, literary theories,
and the academic definitions of race, culture, and
ethnicity, this course aims to educate students to be
politically, socially, and economically conscious about
their personal connections to local and global histories.
By studying the history and current events related to
race, ethnicity, nationality, and culture, students will
develop respect and empathy for individuals and groups
of people locally, nationally, and globally to build
self-awareness, empathy, and foster active social
engagement. Students will complete an Honors final
project at the end of the course. |
