| Course Description: | |
| Medical Terminology is a course designed to develop
students’ knowledge and application of the language of
healthcare. The course is centered on medical
terminology and abbreviations through a systems-based
approach, emphasizing the structure, function, and
interrelationships of human body systems. Students
develop understanding of word construction, including
prefixes, suffixes, root words, and combining forms. Medical terminology provides the specialized language used by healthcare professionals to describe anatomy, physiology, diseases, diagnostic procedures, and treatments in a precise manner. Students will interpret, construct, spell, and pronounce medical terms and apply them in clinical and real-world contexts. Instruction is delivered through a systems-based progression aligned to body systems. Students will develop skills in interpreting abbreviations, reading patient charts, and translating medical language into patient-friendly communication. Emphasis is placed on accurate communication, critical thinking, and professional application in healthcare settings. | |
