| Course Description: | |
| Patient Care Practicum is a course within the Patient Care Pathway designed to integrate and apply the concepts and skills students have developed in preparation for careers in direct patient care. This course prepares students for the Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) exam by reinforcing clinical competencies, patient care procedures, safety protocols, and professional standards. Students refine skills through simulation-based instruction and structured clinical rotations in local healthcare settings from August through April. Students complete approximately 18 hours per month, totaling at least 160 clinical hours, including rotations, simulation, and reflection activities. Instruction emphasizes patient assessment, infection control, communication, documentation, diagnostic procedures, and essential clinical skills. Assignments are evaluated based on comprehension, analysis, application, and synthesis of material. Emphasis is placed on professional communication, patient care skills, legal and medical ethics, and HIPAA compliance, preparing students for certification and employment. | |
