Course Description: | |
This course prepares 9th grade students to engage with the Course Aims and Objectives of an International Baccalaureate (IB)
higher level English Literature course in 11th and 12th grade. Students will read a range of literary texts, as well as engaging with
nontraditional texts such as TED talks and films. Students will develop writing skills through frequent reflection, writing narrative,
writing argument, and writing literary analysis. Students will improve their writing through process writing that includes drafting and
revisions. Students will develop listening and speaking skills through daily informal class discussions as well as formally assessed
Socratic Seminars and presentations. This course follows and expands on the units and content for English 1,2: Identity and Relationships to develop positive academic and social identities, respectful engagement with diverse people, and social justice consciousness and action. Texts taught in this course celebrate a range of identities while exploring responses to systems of oppression. The course aims to help students articulate their own identity in the context of ethnic studies. | |
