Coast Guard JROTC Elective 5,6 (4669, 4670)    - PILOT COURSE -


Pilot Site:
 This is a pilot course for Mission Bay High School. Other schools may not offer this course without prior approval from the Interdivisional Curriculum Committee.

 11–12
 Prerequisites:
 Coast Guard JROTC Elective 3,4 or Coast Guard JROTC Core 3,4
 Course duration:
 Two semesters.
Subject area in which graduation credit will be given:
 Elective.
Course Description:
 This is the third in a series of four Coast Guard JROTC courses. It may be taken in grades 11 or 12. While still instructed in core areas such as leadership, fitness and wellness, these students will also be evaluated in each of the following subject areas:

  • Maritime Knowledge
    • Sea power and national security
    • The U.S. Merchant Marine
    • Coast Guard and Naval operations, communications, and intelligence
    • Coast Guard and Naval logistics
    • Coast Guard and Naval research and development
    • Military law
    • International law
  • Maritime Skills
    • Ship construction and damage control
    • Shipboard organization and watch-standing
    • Seamanship
    • Nautical rules of the road
    • Navigation and time
    • The Maneuvering Board
    • Naval gunnery
    • Coast Guard and Naval aircraft and missiles
  • Public Speaking/Effective Communications
