The Adult Education Department is responsible for the administration of the district's adult education program and oversees the San Diego Adult School. The program provides individuals who are 18 to 20 years of age and no longer attending high school an opportunity to improve their reading, writing, and math skills and/or to complete course requirements needed to obtain the Adult Education High School Diploma. The San Diego Adult School comprises six locations throughout the district. 

The San Diego Adult School uses its own set of course numbers. All adult education course titles begin with AE. Please note that the adult education courses are not approved by the University of California to meet its subject-area admission requirements (the UC a–g requirements).
