Music Grade 1

Grade Range:
 1
Notes:
 Strands emphasized:
Creating; performing; responding; connecting
Course Description:
In this course, students will create, perform, respond, and connect to music at the developmentally appropriate level according to state and national standards. This course expands upon the previously learned musical concepts, as students perceive and demonstrate gradations of tempo, dynamics, and pitch; recognize and improvise musical patterns; and demonstrate expression in music-making. Students continue reading iconic notation, are introduced to standard rhythmic notation, and may use either to document their own musical ideas. They discuss their preferences and evaluate music based on its purpose (e.g., a lullaby) and practice both the roles of the performer and the audience. They make connections between music and culture through musical and movement activities.
