San Diego Unified currently offers credit-bearing online courses through several high schools, using content provided by the Edgenuity company. All Edgenuity course titles start with "EDG". Some online Advanced Placement courses use content provided by Scout from University of California. Scout course titles begin with "SCT".

Students in grades 9-12 can take online courses for either first-time credit or for credit recovery. (Go here for more information on credit recovery courses). Students are scheduled into online courses by their high school counselor. Enrollment requires a signed parent permission form and Acceptable Use Agreement. Online courses may be taken in either a quarter (9-week) or semester (18-week) time period. The content is the same for both formats; students must complete the same amount of material in a shortened time frame if they choose the 9-week session.

Online courses taken for first-time credit that meet the University of California's a-g subject admissions requirements are identified in the list below. These courses also meet the NCAA core course eligibility requirements. (Note: online courses taken for credit recovery do not meet NCAA requirements and should not be taken by student athletes.)
