Course Description:
UC Scout World Language courses are intended for middle school and high school students. Each UC Scout World Language course is based on the themes of Global Challenges, Beauty and Aesthetics, Families and Communities, Personal and Public Identities, Contemporary Life, and Science and Technology. UC Scout World Language courses are standards and proficiency based, weaving the California World Languages Standards Communication (Interpersonal, Interpretive, and Presentational), Cultures, and Connections with the ACTFL World-Readiness Standards Comparisons and Communities into each level of instruction. Students will have the opportunity to engage in live conversations with their teacher throughout the term. These conversations, called "Interpersonal Communication Assignments", will allow students to practice speaking the target language with immediate support and feedback.

Topics for this course include greetings, the alphabet, numbers, describing one’s home, physical characteristics, foods, school, calendars, clothing, free time activities, social networks, healthcare, and transportation. Students will also learn about major holidays and cultural celebrations, as well as understand and respond to simple commands and questions. This class is taught in Spanish and English.
